CropBiome has received €1.3 million in funding in a round led by HBAN (Halo Business Angel Network), and a joint initiative of Enterprise Ireland, InterTradeIreland and Invest Northern Ireland.

CropBiome is an agritech startup focused on building sustainability into a more secure food model. This mission comes in response to the growing concern of climate change’s impact on our food supply – from crop yields and water supplies to the stability of the food supply chain. CropBiome’s plan includes the development of healthier and more resilient crops.

The funding will support the company’s testing and experimentation with microbes derived from wild plant species that are closely related to mass-produced wheat and other cereal crops. The microbes are natural and unharmful to plant and animal life. Designed to create seed dressings, the microbes coat the raw seeds before planting and produce healthier crops.

The microbes have shown to improve resilience in adverse conditions such as drought. |It means fewer chemicals need to be used, crops are more resilient and soil health is improved. In turn, this brings economic benefits to farmers and health benefits to everyone.
